Named for what's between Macon and Perry, not for Georgia's center
Centerville was incorporated on March 25, 1958, by charter of the Georgia General Assembly. Despite what the name suggests, it isn't named for sitting at Georgia's geographic center — it refers to the town's position roughly midway between Macon and Perry. Its post office was briefly renamed "Hattie," for a state representative's daughter, before reverting to Centerville once postal service moved to Byron.
Newer incorporation, but not necessarily newer construction
A 1958 charter date only tells you when Centerville became a city — it says nothing about when any individual property was built, since farmland in this stretch of Houston County was settled well before that. A foundation evaluation should confirm actual construction date rather than assume it from the incorporation year, and should still expect the sandy, fast-draining Coastal Plain soil typical of this part of the county rather than Piedmont-style clay.
