From a trading post at two trails to the Peach Capital
Fort Valley began in 1825 when James Abington Everett built a trading post where two Native American trails crossed. The 1851 rail connection to Macon, combined with Samuel Rumph's superior Elberta peach variety in the early 1900s, turned the town into the center of Georgia's peach industry — by 1921 roughly a third of all Georgia peach shipments originated here. The city was chartered in 1856 and later became the seat of Peach County when the county was created in 1924.
